You can change your relationship with anxiety
Do These Symptoms Sound Familiar?
If you’ve been experiencing any of the following, it could be a sign that anxiety is impacting your life:
Constant worry or fear about the future
Feeling restless, on edge, or irritable
Trouble concentrating or staying present
Difficulty sleeping or waking up feeling unrested
Muscle tension and headaches
Digestive Issues
Anxiety can feel relentless. It’s like that extra voice in your head that never takes a day off, always finding something to worry about- whether it's a big life decision or just what’s for dinner. As soon as one anxiety-provoking situation is over, it's on to the next thing that makes you anxious. Anxiety is a frequent visitor for so many people, and while it might feel like it’s helping you “stay prepared,” it often leaves you exhausted, tense, and stuck.
You don’t have to let anxiety control your life
How Therapy for Anxiety Can Change Things
Therapy isn’t just about managing symptoms- it’s about understanding why anxiety shows up and what it’s trying to do (yes, it thinks it’s helping you). Anxiety can twist your thoughts, making even small things seem huge, and worst-case scenarios feel inevitable. Together, we’ll challenge these thoughts and bring some perspective back.
Therapy has been shown to be incredibly effective in reducing anxiety. Here’s how it can help:
Identify triggers and develop strategies to manage them
Challenge and reframe negative thoughts
Focus on helpful thinking
Build on your strengths to reduce stress
Increase your understanding of yourself and your actions
Develop self-compassion
Improve your self-confidence
Stop avoiding situations that you would enjoy if you weren’t so anxious
My Approach to Anxiety Therapy
I work with people using several evidence-based therapeutic approaches to treat anxiety, including:
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): ACT helps you make room for anxious thoughts without letting them run the show. We’ll work on accepting that anxious feelings happen (without fighting them) and build a life that matters to you- even when anxiety pops up. Think of it like learning to coexist with that annoying roommate until they eventually stop bugging you so much.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): CBT is a pro at spotting those anxious thought loops and poking holes in them. If you’ve got a brain that jumps to conclusions or magnifies the worst-case scenario, CBT is here to bring in a bit of logic. Together, we’ll work to challenge your anxious thoughts and see them for what they are: thoughts, not facts.
Somatic Therapy: Anxiety often has a way of settling into your body, leaving you tense or jumpy. Somatic Therapy involves tuning into those physical sensations and learning to calm your body down. It’s like telling your brain, “Hey, we’re safe; let’s relax.” You’ll learn techniques to ground yourself and feel more at ease in your own skin.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) Informed Techniques: Ever feel like part of you is super anxious while another part is telling you to calm down? IFS is all about understanding those different “parts” of yourself. By working with these parts- like the part that worries endlessly or the part that tries to avoid scary situations- you can learn to bring them into balance, making peace with all the different voices in your head.
Anxiety is different for everyone, and that’s why your treatment plan should be too. Whether you need therapy, medication, or both, we’ll create a plan tailored specifically to you. If medication is part of the solution, I’ll help connect you with a psychiatric prescriber.
Therapy can help you navigate a path to a calmer, more centered life. Whether you’re in Denver, anywhere in Colorado, or Georgia, we can work together to help you understand, manage, and ultimately transform your relationship with anxiety.
If you’re ready to take that first step, I’m here. Reach out for a free consultation, and let’s get started on a future that feels more in tune with who you really are- without all that anxious noise.
